Egyptian Embassy Re-opens in Kabul after 32 Years

The new Egyptian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karim Sharaf presented Sunday his credentials to President Hamid Karzai during a formal ceremony held in the Presidential Palace.

Following the presentation ceremony where Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rasoul and Chief Protocol Officer, Hamid Sediq were also present, President Karzai hailed the resumption of official diplomatic relations with the Republic of Egypt and discussed issues of mutual concern with the new ambassador.

Ambassador Sharaf conveyed President Hosni Mubarak’s regards and greetings to President Karzai and said he was pleased to see his country re-establish diplomatic ties after a long delay.

Egyptian ambassador strongly condemned the Friday’s terrorist attack in Kabul on the birthday anniversary of the Great Prophet of Islam.

The President asked the ambassador to convey his best wishes and greetings to the President Mubarak and hoped Egypt as an important Muslim country can play its role in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
